Epson – Exhibition Fiber Paper.

LL has a look at this and it looks very nice. I like fine paper for prints and books so I keep trying different papers. I'll be very interested in this and it may tip me over to a 3800 for the inks.

Harmon has a new paper too. I think I read about it at Large Format Forum. The folks over there who know about such things swear it looks and feels and even SMELLS like Ilford silver gelatin paper. Not surprising since Harmon is the parent of Ilford.

Richard Lohman did a review of it on LL a few weeks back...

Thanks for posting this. It is good to hear that Epson is apparently producing a paper with such a high d-Max that looks like a fine art paper and allows use of the photo black cartridge. To date when I want really black blacks I have been using Pictorico Hi-Gloss White Film. While black and white prints look very good on this paper it does not look or feel anything like an art paper. I will definitely be trying out Epson's new paper.

Thanks Stovall!

I am glad to see that Epson has announced this! I have been using a 100% Firbre Based paper from Lexjet (Sunset Air Dried Fibre Gloss in about the same weight) it does black & white fantastic!

Comes in rolls as well. I will be tring some of this as soon as my supplier gets it in!

Interesting that the new Epson paper is apparently so stiff that they're not going to offer it in rolls. I've been using Innova F-Type Gloss, but I want to try the new Hahnemuhle papers, Photo Rag Pearl and FineArt Baryta.

Jeff,

Not really surprising if you consider: (as you are probably well aware, the coating is a micro-porous ceramic coating) and it has limited flexiblity. The thicker the substrate and coating, the less flexibility you get. Some of this limit maybe due to the fact that the fibre base is just a stiff as the coating. I would bet that it is at least 350 gsm weight.

I found out about a limit of the coating recently...was mounting a 20x24" print (Epson Prem. Lustre) and the assistant had the tacking iron way up...TOO hot. When I tacked the print, I wasn't paying attention and left the iron on the paper too long and it "cracked" the ceramic coating! Won't do that again! LOL

I am not too worried about this not coming in rolls as I only use the Fibre papers for my larger wall portraits. The 24x30" sheets will work. Thou, if it really turns out to be nice, I hope they consider producing it in something for larger prints. I do a good number of 30x40" wall portraits.
