I tried to do this all day. I tried to follow direction from there help site. I select the path but the stroke button still is not available. What am I doing wrong ?? Please help

Are you talking about putting a stroke around your text, as in the Layer Style button that is at the bottom of your layers palette? If yes, then make sure you have the text layer highlighted and make sure the layer is not locked. You do not need to select the path of the text.
