CS3 batch conversion question - 10-29-2007, 10:57 PM

A friend here at work shot an air show awhile back but had his settings on Raw. He has no idea how or software to open the RAW files. He asked if I would convert the files on the cards to JPEG for him.

So here is the question is there an easy way to batch convert and save these files?

He is not much more than someone who I say hi to once and a while so I do not want to spend to much time on this but would help him out if it didn't take more than a couple of hours.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Don

Do you have CS3? Only asking cause I know in it you can go into Bridge, select them all, go to "Tools->Photoshop->Image Processor" then choose to "save as JPEG" and select a high quality - 12 and don't check the resize button.

This will batch all of the images from RAW to the largest size/quality jpeg. He can then edit them as he wishes.

If he doesn't want to do any further editing - you can reduce the size by clicking the reduce size button and inputting the max dimensions you want on either side in the boxes..

hope this helps.

Thank you! Really thank you!
I did not want to spend too much time on this and I learned something along the way.

Let's hope that he got the WB, exposure, etc correct or the RAW files are going to make ugly babies... His camera didn't come with software???

I hope they are close. I am sure he shot them all in one of the program modes. I am not sure what it is in NIKON but in Canon he is a green retangle guy.

He is supposed to be getting Some type of Adobe next month and I can show him how to do things.
I of course will make a copy of the Raw files so when he does get to learning I will give these files to him. Then he will see the differnce between Raw and JPEG.

It took me 3 years to go Raw and now I won't shoot JPEG. It's like a saftey net for exposure.

Thanks again for all the help. This forum has been a god send to me. I learn something every night when I read up on this site. The Members here are really good people. I don't know where else so many folks with knowledge of a subject share so freely? This site is a rare find.
