A different CS3 batch question - 11-06-2007, 08:49 PM

If I have a bunch of files open in CS3 (final edit) and want to save them all to one new folder-is there a way to send them all at once or do I have to do it one at a time?
The right answer could save me hours.
I shoot 4 Football games a weekend.

Thanks,

Don

Take a look at the image processor. CS2 has the option to take open images and save them to a different folder. Can't imagine not being able to do that in CS3.

The upgraded CS2 image processor is on Russell Brown's website. CS3 should already have the upgrade built in.

I tried this and was sucessful the on the first batch. After that a pop up saying "I must save the images first" came up each time I hit run? I had to go back to manually saving the batch.
I was in heaven for 30 minutes this morning.

Sorry to hear that. I don't normally use the image processor. Did a setting change back to default of some sort when you tried again?

Don,

I've been trying the image processor this morning in several different configurations. In each case I've opened a group of raw images, launched image processor and told it to output jpegs in my desired quality and dimensions. I've also check the convert to sRGB box.

In each test, the image processor has not hung up and I've been left with a destination folder full of jpegs.

I'll try a larger quantity of images next. Perhaps that has something to do with it.

Ken

119 Raw images from the 5D processed to jpegs using image processor. Took a bit of time, but it worked and that's pretty much what it is for.

There has to be something else causing your problem using image processor and I'm at a loss as to what it might be.

Don - are you applying an action when you run them? If you have a "save/save as" command in the action you are running - you need to check the ignore "save" commands button. I don't have it open so I'm not sure thats exactly what the check box says - but that may be an issue.

Don,

I've continued to dig into the settings of Image processor and those for Batch processing.

Under the Batch Processor you can change the source to "Open files". With that done it looks like it would actually serve you better than the image processor as you can record an action to resize the images and add a watermark or copyright, then save as a jpeg.

That should allow you to process everything you have open, end up with files saved the way you want and allow you close photoshop without having to acknowledge endless "save changes" windows.

Ken

Thank you all.
I will try this in the morning when I get home from work. I just loaded up 6 2gb cards at our last game of the season (Cy-Woods JV) tonight and will have a bunch to to process and then save. If I can master this part....I will actually have time to sleep before going back to my real job.

Again thank you all for your help.

You have gotten a number of answers but I believe, after reading the answers, that people are unclear what you really want to do. Do you really have a bunch of images open in the CS3 editor at the same time. If so, that is a very slow way to process large numbers of files. I never load more than about 5 images at a time into Photoshop because more than that means that every image will have to be swapped in and out of virtual memory and that is not nearly as efficient as having the image all in RAM.

Usually for batch processing there will be minimal editing needed if you shoot reasonably tight (consistently). Whether you shoot RAW or JPG, you can actually do most of your batches right in the Bridge Utility. You just set the RAW converter to handle both RAW and JPG, and then you load the whole batch of images into the RAW converter. Now you can adjust one at a time, or in batches and you can do all your cropping sharpening, noise reduction, contrast adjustments, color balancing and so forth and then save all the files out at whatever size is desired with whatever names you want and to any folder all from that one tool in Photoshop.

Note: A while back I wrote up a quick and dirty description of my RAW workflow in CS2. Here is that link:

http://www.glamour1.com/forums/digit...low#post219883

You can do the same thing with JPG, or even mixed in CS3

Cheers,
Roger
