Pencil Sketch - 11-08-2007, 09:42 AM

The other day, I posted this photo with several others in the General Photo forum.

This morning, I started playing around with it and converted it to a pencil sketch and then added a light brown tone to it.

Let me know what you think.

I think it works quite well. I think (altho you didn't ask) that a vertical crop would accentuate the jump aspect.

Perhaps something like this.

In the original posted -- I love what the treatment did to the horse and rider. The background that is out of focus is also very nice, and looks similar to what you would see included in a asketch, but in the original, the standards (or whatever the things that hold the barriers are called) being in sharp focus with great amounts of detail and edge sharpness look out of place. I would say, blur everything except the main subject prior to conversion, or as Ken posted, the crop is very effective.

You are right. I like the crop. It gets rid of all the distractions. I think I'll go back and try it on the original color version.

Thanks, goes to show you that two heads are better than one.

Ken;

I really want to thank you for your suggestion about cropping the barriers out of this photo.

The rider is my step-granddaughter and the purpose for taking the series of photos was for her senior yearbook photo.

I went back and cropped the original color photo and printed an 8x10. I still have a few sheet of Epson's Colorlife paper and it turned out great.

Nice conversion. I like to play around with these sorts of PS effects. Here is my Pen and Ink example:

I think the many different effects you can acheive using photoshop and other programs like it, is one of the biggest advantages digital has over film.

I like the pen and ink effect also.
