I use CS, PSE1 and PSE5. The only plugin I use is Virtual Photographer and it works equally well on all three.

I've used elements starting with 4 and now have 6. Does all I need it for (portraits, facials) plus lots of other stuff that I won't ever touch (scrap books etc). You'll be surprised just what you "can do" with this program for a lot less money than cs2 or 3. Really depends just how far you want to carry your learning experience (which with this program is a greater starter tool to learn with prepping you for CS) and to what extent your post work or imagination requires. There's also plenty of good books and tutes to teach you and yes , lots and lots of plug-ins out there.

cool I have used photoshop before and plan on going back to it, but I have lightroom and do all my raw work in there and was thinking that elements could cover anything else I needed to do.
