CS3 printing issues - 11-13-2007, 01:24 PM

Hi all,

I installed CS3 on my computer (PC) about a month ago but haven't needed to print photos until today. Now I'm facing a problem. I have 2 Epson printers and a PDF printer driver which is set as the default printer.

When printing from PS CS3 I select the printer and set up the printer preferences. No problem there and the photo prints fine. Move on to the next photo and when I open the print dialog it shows the correct printer in the "Printer:" dropdown. However if I press the "Page Setup" button it brings up the PDF driver setup. If I print it now defaults to the default printer instead of the selected printer!

So I have to select the Epson again, and then go into the printer properties and set them correctly. For each and every photo! This was not this was in CS (I didn't use CS2 so I can't comment on that) where the printer setup was preserved between printing sessions.

I can not find any place in the settings/preferences/etc. to set it to preserve the printer setup between prints. I have already wrecked some photos because I forgot to set the properties etc. This is extremely frustrating because I'm used to just rip through printing 4x6 easily one after the other in CS. I'm also experiencing GPFs in Bridge when I'm printing from Photoshop.

As far as I can tell, I have the latest builds/updates of PS and Bridge. Does anyone else experience this or have a solution? TIA:)

Best regards,

Just set the Epson printer that you want to use as the default printer and then do your prints. You can then change it back at the end. By the way, I have CS3 and do not have the problem you have. Once I select the printer and properties, they stay for the whole session.
Cheers,
Roger

Roger,

Of course I can set the printer as default, but for me that is a real PITA. I always have the PDF as default and have on all my computers since that is what I use most.

As for you not having this problem I do wonder. Are you using Mac or PC? The correct printer shows up as the selected printer in the PS print dialog, but if you hit the Properties button it shows the wrong printer properties.

This has been discussed heavily on the adobe forum, which of course I found just after I posted<g> Adobe has NOT yet fixed this but are working on a solution. They changed CS3 to where printer selections are document based, not application wide. See http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c052e93

I also have CS installed and have no problems printing form there:)

Best regards,
