lightroom question... - 11-27-2007, 04:14 PM

first off, i love LR. it's amazing and does pretty much everything (and a little more than) i want it to do.

but i'm having a problem. sometimes when I deep into editing, usually when i'm going through alot of images like from a wedding, i get strange error messages in Develop mode. Sometimes it says 'unknown error occured' and won't let me see the images at 100% (it won't fully process them and they look blurry). Other times it won't even display an image it just says 'Out of Memory' but it's, get this, UPSIDE DOWN (?). it's starting to worry me. whenever it happens the only way to fix it is to close LR and open it up again. Is my PC not powerful enough to push it? that seems odd...

system specs:

AMD dual-core opteron 170 @ 2.52 ghz
2 Gb OCB platinum RAM (2x1gb in dual channel, 2-3-2-5 timing (1T))
Western Digital 7200 RPM HD
nVidia 7800GT OC video card

i tried calling adobe tech support but I was on hold for like 20 minutes so i gave up on that.

Known "Feature".. Basically, when the app begins to use too much memory it dies. Adding more memory or better machine does not help.

1.0 and 1.1 was really bad about it... 1.2 made it much better... now with 1.3, I am experiencing random crashes now instead.

1.2 has been the most stable version so far... for me..

The product is far from perfect at this point, but I live with it's annoyances as I like the app in general.

can I download an update to 1.2?

I'm apparently still using 1.0.

Ver 1.3 does not have a reputation of being as stable as 1.2

I get the upside down "Out of Memory" error too, or the lockdown. I just close and restart Lightroom. It has happened as often now that I upgraded to 1.2, but it has happened at least once since I did the upgrade.

I would wait a little bit on 1.3; it just came out, and it always seems like they need a little time to work out the bugs.

Good deal.. I sure am considering downgrading my 1.3 back to 1.2 if that is possible..
