PSCS3 Shutting Down - 11-28-2007, 09:52 PM

I started having problems with CS3 shutting down with an error message that said "Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and must shut down". This would happen when I had more than 2 photos opened so I started there and after some research I found out there are 2 little problems with CS3, and I assume it came after the last update. The first one is that CS3 looks for the default printer drivers and for whatever reason, if the printer is a shared (network) printer, it will shut down. To solve that problem, make the default printer a local one. The Adobe PDF printer will do. I did this and still was having problems and I found out there is a conflict with Microsoft IntelliPoint 6.1 drivers. I had upgraded to 6.2 and still had the problem so I must include 6.1 or later. I bought a cheap Logitech USB mouse and loaded its drivers and then deleted MS Intellipoint 6.2. Now, no more problems!!

If anyone here has been having this nagging, pain in the butt problem of CS3 shutting down suddenly, without warning, and in the middle of a lot of work, I hope I have brought a little sunshine into your life.

Both of these topics are on the Adobe Support page but MS is quiet about the problems. Who knows who brought this on but it is really a problem that ought to be taken care of with a minimum of CYA from both sides.

I had problems with my Mac CS3 after the update. Now it won't run in Rosetta. It crashes in rosetta but runs fine natively. This means i can't use my Nik Sharpener.

ps...Nik needs to get this program UTD so it will run natively!!! :)

David, I recently had a similar issue with CS3 (I do not recall if it was before or after the the most recent update). The error occurred when trying to open any file (you could create a file/image, just not edit an existing one). I tracked the issue down to a corrupt printer driver (can't explain how the driver was corrupted) - a re-install of the driver resolved the issue. BTW, my default printer is a shared printer and I do not have any problems (this was the printer driver I did have to re-install, hmm).

Are you running a Microsoft mouse? It seems there were a couple of bugs. One was the print driver problem and one was the mouse driver for IntelliPoint 6.1 or 6.2. Adobe said to make the default printer a local one and the other sad that the 10.01 upgrade would cure the mouse problem. You reloaded the printer drivers and I had to get another mouse, even though I had the patch. Plus we also have a problem with a Mac and they are supposed to be perfect!

Damn, ain't technology grand.

I am using a MS mouse - IntelliMouse (conected via the PS2 connection - not USB) and I am not running any of the IntelliMouse drivers. Also, I did not mention it I am running on a Windows XP platorm (not a Mac).

I had that problem. Had! My computer crashed today. It turns out that the Dual (Intel)processors have some issues. My computer is less than a year old?
After I worked with Dell to get my computer back running (restored to day one), I recieved an urgent update from Dell advising me to make an update for my processors. The update listed the error codes I had been seeing on the dreaded blue screen.
I hope the issues are cleared up now.
I hope this is not your problem but if you are getting error codes then it would be worth checking into any critical updates that may be needed.
