it is a canon40d file - so i'm not sure cs2 will open it. lightroom and bibble will, as well as dpp etc.

Opened it in DPP and it looked good on my calibrated crt. When I adjusted the white balance the picture warmed up ever so slightly and also bumped the exposure to .17 but the changes were minor. If it looks good on your monitor I'd say you're good to go.

Opening the CR2 in ACR, the as-shot WB as interpreted by ACR seemed a little too blue and a little too magenta. Here's a very quick edit. The woman's blouse on the left clashes with the backdrop and makes it somewhat hard to judge the overall color, but checking the CMKYK numbers on the skintones they seem pretty good now. I've attached the XMP containing the Camera Raw settings that I used for raw conversion.

What update, when I clicked update. it checked and said none available. Is it an update from Canon or Adobe?

Problem is that the update is for ACR and not CS2. With CS3 being released, Adobe stopped updates for CS2 ACR. To handle Mark III, 40D, and G9 Raw files you have to either have CS3 or Lightroom.

.

Not entirely.. Go to adobe web site and download the Adobe DNG conversion program. Convert your 40D RAW files and then they will go into CS2 with no problem or loss.

lol, thanks everyone - and chris...

see i liked that rendition of the photo here as well, and processed one as such - but the reality was i know the background is grey...so i was trying to keep with that, but frankly i think it looks better with the posted white balance.
