Any TPF'ers going to the Adobe Photoshop Seminar tour tomorrow at the Dallas Convention Center? I'll be there... just thought if some of you were going to be there, we could meet up.

I would have gone but I'm working nightshift this week. I think krodgers is going to go if he finished up some photos that are in the PP stage. Drop him a PM.

i posted about it several weeks ago. curious as to what the other tpf'ers thought of it....

my personal take is that while monroy is an amazing artist and an entertaining speaker, the workshop isn't really that effective for photographers unless you are doing a lot of compositing. his speciality is creating photo-realistic renderings, so while he can create a very nice looking brick wall in mere minutes, i will never need to. he touched on alpha channels for selections, which is something i want to learn more about, but otherwise it was a day of cool tricks i'll be very unlikely to use.

I agree with you. I took that seminar last year in San Antonio and felt that I had not gotten much out of it, even though I was in awe of Bert's talent. Ben Willmore's seminar is more focused to photographers.

I am also of the opinion that Bert is a great artist and phoenominal with Photoshop and other related tools.

I will NOT EVER attend another Kelby training event though. Even though I spent only $99 on the class, I lost over $500 in wages for time that I took off to attend the event. This wasn't a "hands on" class so you just sat there all day watching Bert play around in photoshop. You weren't allowed to ask questions during the presentation. The workbook that was handed out is useless and Bert specifically said to put the workbooks up... that he wasn't going to use them and you should use it when you got home.

There were ZERO refreshments. Well, there were two water coolers in the hall but that was it. NO Coffee! No where to buy coffee, drinks, snacks, anything! I couldn't stay awake the entire afternoon and considered leaving before the last "session" started.

Unrelated to the class, it took me two hours to drive from downtown to Frisco... so I went straight to the liquor store and then "veg'd" on the couch and ate cookie dough until 10:00 with Julie. That was the best part of my day... as it is every day!

I really didn't learn anything useful at the class that I didn't already know.

I hope the candor above was more helpful than not.

the explanation of what the different RGB channels control, Alpha channels and Pen tool discussion were enough for me to say it was worth while.

That was slightly useful but I don't think it merited a class. I wrote it down in 10 seconds and that could easily be in a book. Of course, they wouldn't be able to make $100,000 a day by selling a book.

ditto. he touched on those things, and they were valuable bits, but he didn't go in depth at all. i tried to learn to use the pen tool today from the book he said we should read at home and, well....i still can't use the pen tool. had he spent all day on them showing us how to use them in photography specific situations - and i don't mean a quick extraction of a monkey from a background - it would have been worth twice the $99!

for the record, been willmore's class was excellent.
