Any Mac users know of a free CRW converter? - 12-14-2007, 09:37 AM

I'm in Miami with my G9, and shot a bunch of pics in raw only. I wanted to leave some for the family in JPG, but don't have a raw converter here.

I'm on a Mac mini (awww--it's cute), and don't know if there's any way I can convert them to jpg with something I could download. Does anyone know of anything?

Thanks!

Tom

Can you download the software that came with the camera directly from their site?

Canon Digital Photo Professional is an excellent software that should have came with the camera.

Both are free.

If Canon, then:

CRW-X For Mac OS X 10.2
CRW-X is a free Mac OS X application that allows Mac OS X users to convert Canon's .CRW or .TIF format files to PSD (Adobe PhotoShop), PPM (Portable Pixelmap), or PNG (Portable Network Graphic) format Files. CRW-X can convert Canon RAW image format files produced by a wide range of Canon digital cameras, including: PowerShot Series: 600, A5, A50, Pro70, Pro90, G1, G2, S30, S40 and EOS Series: EOS D30, EOS D60, EOS-1D. System Requirements: PowerPC Macintosh computer with lots of memory, running Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

If Nikon, then:

At www.irfanview.com It seems to open most RAW file types but not necessarily able to provide a preview. RAW converter evidently based on DCRaw. It is basically the all round useful toolbox type of program with some very basic edit ability. Maybe later versions will more comprehensive RAW support. Currently at V3.98

I'm with Shelley... just DL the Lightroom trial. That should get it done for you... if you have a quick internet connection.

Be aware that LightRoom will only work on 10.4 and above.

10.4, but a puny little mini with only half a gig of RAM. I'm afraid I'll choke it with lightroom. I may have to wait til I get back home.

Look for a program called Rawker, it's free and Mac platform. Converts RAW to TIFF and I don't know what else.
