PK Sharpener instruction - 12-15-2007, 09:55 PM

Is there anything out there, in addition to Bruce Fraser's Real World Image Sharpening with Adobe Photoshop CS2, that would help me get the most of PhotoKit Sharpener? I just bought it for CS3 after playing around with it for a week. I've gotten very good results with it but I'd like to learn a little more and which sharpening to apply, when to edit the mask/luminosity/black&white point/etc. Right now I feel like I'm just playing around until I get something I like. I guess I'm looking for instruction in workflow and how and when to adjust the knobs that PK Sharpener gives you.

I don't suppose the PKS user guide is any help? It's been a while since I've read it so I don't remember much that's in it.

PKS is a great tool. I've been using for a while myself and really like the results. However, I, too, don't do much beyond applying the sharpening and then maybe tweaking the strength to my liking.

John, the user guide is OK but really doesn't go into the nitty gritty of how's and why's.

I've heard good things about the Fraser book but was wondering of anyone had some other sources of info - maybe a web tutorial or something similar.

I have the book, and it's really good--lots of "nitty gritty." PKS is based on the book, which is where I started. I read the entire book, then bought the program.

This site and this site should give you an understanding of how unsharp mask works. While it is not written for PKS, the mechanics of how and why are similar.
