RAW complications! HELP! - 12-19-2007, 07:36 PM

After I shot this weekend in RAW, I tried to upload them to my Mac and could only see the RAW thumbnails when trying to rate them (for the post processing part). IT IS SO ANNOYING b/c i am having to open each one individually to see the images and it takes forever! I am pretty sure the memory space on my computer isnt the issue. What else could I be not doing!! Any suggestions appreciated!

A couple of questions:
Have you done this before and it worked differently?

What are you trying to open the RAW's in?

Oh yea...sorry :) Soooo......... I did open my RAW file processor a long time ago when a friend was trying to walk me through it and it seemed to work. I use Bridge ( thats what I open them in)....Maybe I need to use Lightroom instead? I dunno.....

Are you trying to view them while they are still on the card or after they are transfered to the computer?

Are you opening them in the Mac's 'Preview' to see them?
Or do you see the thumbs in Bridge, but can't open them for processing in Adobe Raw????
Does your copy of Adobe Raw support the camera you are using?
It would help if give more details about what camera and software you are using.

I do see them in Bridge but the thumbnails literally have RAW splattered across them so I can not view any of the images to rate. My Adobe Raw does support the camera i am using because i have used it before (months ago). The reason I shot in RAW in the first place was because I thought it would be easier to open them up in Bridge in the camera raw processor rather than shooting in jpeg. I wasnt sure how to open the images up if shot in jpeg (i was under the impression i had to shoot in raw in order to open Camera Raw in Adobe). I have a Canon 5D that i shoot with...I have only been using Bridge and PCS3 for the last few months. I think there may be a place maybe in Preferences maybe where I can check a box to be able to view the images as normal...My friend told me to go up to Tools and scroll down to Cache and then click on Purge the Cache...and that didnt work either. Thank you again for any help. I am sorry it sounds like I dont know what I am doing...I am just a rookie to all this and trying to figure it all out on my own is a bit difficult :)

The 5D Raw CR2 files are supported in PS CS3. You may just need to go to the Adobe Website and download the latest Adobe Camera Raw file and replace the current file in CS3 with the new file. Then CS3 would do the conversion.

Really, you probably should just continue shooting jpg until get comfortable with raw, because ANY photo editor can open the jpg files.

Now the DPP software program that came with your camera is an excellent RAW Processor. It was designed for the Canon Raw Files by Canon. If you haven't already done so, install it from the CD that came with your camera. Use DPP to process your RAW until you get CS3 set up for them. You just have to learn by trying.
Use DPP to open those Raw files. DPP= Digital Photo Professional.
