Is Capture NX worth buying? - 12-26-2007, 08:25 PM

I was thinking about buying capture NX. The Power point function seems fairly easy to use. Right now all I have is an old version of Elements. I don't do a lot of post processing but if this is easier to use maybe I would get into it a little more.

Isn't there a trial version?

If so, I'd definitley try before you buy.

I've tried, and tried, and tried to use it with the hopes that it would be easier, and some how yeild better results. But PS is so ingraned into my brain, that Capture is painful to use.

In numerous attempts, I've yet to find a workflow that is faster, or even one that yeilds better results by using NX.

I got it a year ago and have kept up with the upgrades ... I really like it but ... my process flow is two steps ...

1) RAW NEF files into NX for white balance and exposure adjustments
2) PS for all the rest ... can't live without layers :-)

so I can't say I use many of the features

NX does wonders with my RAW images and I love the Control Point feature BUT:
If you are processing a lot of images (over 100), then you need to set aside some time because NX will only allow you to open 20 images at a time to make changes. If most of your images are similar, then you can do a batch process and save some time.

My usual workflow is the edit most of my files in Bridge/ACR and the ones I really love, I "fine tune" in NX
