I still use it on one of my old computers where I have not upgraded the operating system. Maybe 80% of the things you can do in the current version of Photoshop CS3, you can do in 7.0. It may be a little difficult to find out exactly how to do some things because some of the menu items have changed. But by in large the shortcut keys are still the same, so you can find out how to do what you want to do if you know the shortcut keys. You may find it difficult to shoot in RAW and find a converter for your version since Adobe does not support 7.0 anymore. But it will do everything else you may need.
I know you are a student, so you may not have the money. But if you can afford about $175 and have a current operating system like XP or Vista, you should upgrade to the current version of Photoshop CS3. This would make it much easier to get tutorials to learn.
But if you have an old operating system or do not have the money to upgrade to CS3, you can do a search for "Photoshop 7.0 tutorials" and find a ton of resources to choose from, that will relate to your version only. You will find that people who maintain websites will not take down their old versions of help or tutorials, they just add the new versions to what they have of the old versions and hence both versions will stay active on the web. You could also find some books on Ebay for just a few dollars that are specific to your version.
Use this version to get started. It is much faster than the current version and will get you started using PS. Good Luck!

I have had PS 7 for a couple of years LOL all I know how to do is crop and well thats about it. I also need a way to learn other than reading. I need to "see" how it is done.
I wish you luck in finding help. I do have the book "photoshop 7 for dummies" it seems easy to read and if you can learn from reading I would suggest that.
Now yall know why all my photos are straight out of the camera LOL

Asha
I was at Houston Camera Exchange yesterday, and there was an excellent book on how to pose and shoot seniors/teenagers. You might want to check it out.
As to learning PS 7, here's one link from a Google search that I did that produced a basic tutorial (what all of the menus are about) http://getit.rutgers.edu/tutorials/p...op7/index.html
Recent versions of Photoshop (CS, CS2, CS3) included a separate CD that provided some basic tutorials. There are also a mess of websites dedicated to Photoshop: www.planetphotoshop.com www.photoshopcafe.com www.photoshopusertv.com - free video podcast
Hopefully, that'l get ya started.

You do not need PS to make money with your camera. It will help you do some things but first spend your time learning to use your camera. Take pictures of people, lots of people. Take advantage of anyone who will pose for you. Submit the pictures you take here on this forum or anyone who has expertise to critique your work. Learn what pictures you take will sell. You do not need to charge a fortune to make money.
I don't know how old you are but when I was in High School and College, I would take pictures of my friends and their friends and their friends. I would then sell the pictures to them for double or triple of what it cost me. Which is not much money to them but in no time I had money to buy more equipment.
Some ideas to take pictures to sell:
-You could take pictures at basketball games or other sporting events at your school.
-You could take pictures for parents of their children and sell them.
-You could go to parties and take party pics
-Go to the drama department and offer to take promotional pictures
-Maybe you could take some simple pictures for businessess
Use your connections. Friends of family, friends of friends, friends of co-workers, even total strangers. Tell everyone you come in contact with, you would like to take pictures. You may not be able to charge money up front because you are not a professional. But if you do good work, people will pay you to have the results.

thanks for the great ideas. i'm in high school, and i work at the basketball concession stands for my school, and that will be a great place for me start. my friends love the camera, and i'm sure that i'll have no problem getting them to pose for me. thanks again.
