Help with suggestions on this shot

I was processing the RAW pics and messing while messing with this one, ended up with a pic I think I like (2nd). Any comments, good or bad, about what I did with it.

I have no idea what I was trying to do, at the time. Here is the under exposed original also (1st).

The shot was of an old doorway at Lendal Tower, built in 1300, on the bank of the Ouse River (York, England). A lot of the tower was rebuilt in 1932.

Sepia filter, a little burning on the edge to contrast with the gate, Lucis arts filter....
