Silly question about Canvas - 01-09-2008, 02:07 PM

Ok. Here I am about to show how much I do not know.
What are the benifits of printing on canvas? I have a customer wanting to know if a Volley ball photo of he daughter would look good on canvas and I do not have an answer?

What criteria would you use for printing on canvas?

I am canvas ignorant other than when my ex-wife liked them. back then all I knew is they were expensive.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

Don,

Some basics of my thinking.
- I want my canvas mounted prints to be my ultimate in class and price for my studio.
- I only canvas mount prints 11x14 and larger.
- I charge an extra fee for canvas mounting.
- Sometimes I use a free canvas mounting bonus to up sell to a larger size.

Here is what I tell my clients. A canvas mounted print "combines the renaissance look of a painting with the exactness of a photograph."

I ask them a couple of questions to help them decide.
- Do they want the print to look like a painting?
- Is it the kind of print you would normally see in a painting?
- Is the photograph more art than picture?
- Is it a classic portrait that has a renaissance look?

I want my client and others who will see the print to know that canvas mounted prints are something special.
Hope this helps.
