It may have changed since I switched over to CS, but the main differences driving my switch were:

1) Access to individual channels.
2) Ability to use more color spaces, especially LAB.
3) At that time, PS could do alot more with layers. Not sure how that is now.
4) More control over color management options in PS.

There are probably alot more, but those are the main ones that got me to switch, especially access to LAB.

Thanks! I was just looking at a couple of those links myself. One of the things I want to learn how to do is HDR images. It looks like Elements can't do HDR, but CS2 or 3 can. Is that correct?

Shane,
I with you on the HDR images. Never tried it, but I like it. According to the Photomatix webb site, it does work with elements. Of course, with CS, I think that you can do some of this without Photomatix. I've read some good things about this software, however.

Thanks, Bill. That's my dilema. Buy Elements and something else, or just by Photoshop. I imagine I'll go with Photoshop - maybe CS2. I imagine it will do more than I need anyway.

What do you use?

Did your camera come with a copy of Elements? Many of the Canon cameras have an Elements CD bundled in. If so, you can try it, or you can upgrade from it to PS for $299, which is a speciall offer from Adobe for people who got Elements with the purchase of a Canon camera.

Shane,
I am using Elements 5.0, before that E3.0. Post processing has been a real struggle for me, so I wanted something fairly simple. I've been pleased with Elements. I also use Nikon Capture NX.

Duffy, mine didn't come with Elements. It came with Digital Photo Professional and PhotoStitch.

Bill, post processing definitely has a learning curve. I've been using PhotoFiltre for point and shoot and other stuff. It's pretty decent, but not Photoshop or anywhere close.

I had the same offer when I bought my p/s canon camera a few years ago, and hence, that's how I started using full blown CS, then later upgraded to CS2, and now CS3.

I'm one of those in the process of moving from PSE 5.0 to CS3. Actually, I have been quite happy with PSE, but I felt it was time to move up. The lack of Curves in PSE has bothered me. Yes - I know there are "Curves", but they are not the same and as robust as in CS3. Also, ACR in CS3 is far more robust. For my sports work, its about all I need, but was not in PSE.
