How do you embed IPTC info.??
I have Photo Mechanic, and I've messed around with it to no avail.
Do you use "save" or "okay" when you want to embed the information you've typed.
I'm sure this is a VERY elementary question, but I'm pretty green when it comes to all this post processing stuff- thanks!

Okay... in the main (non-individual photo preview) contact sheet...

You have to select the photos you want to apply IPTC info to. (usually Cntl-A for all of them)...

Then under Image - ITPC Stationary Pad (fill in all the blanks you wanna fill) and hit apply stationary to selected. You also may have to be sure the fields you want to use have the check-mark box filled beside them.

That will apply all of the ITPC fields to all of the photos you have selected.

No such thing as a dumb question... I promise.

Its also a lot easier to simply add a basic caption and info to the images as you ingest them, then go back later and fill in the specific info for that image. A problem that I've seen happen to more than a few photographers: when they were saving photos or copying photos in PM, they would click "apply IPTC to images" in the save/copy pop-up, which would write over the info that they had just finished doing.

Usually with me (and we use Photo Mechanic at work) Since I'm usually shooting assignments with two cameras, I'll copy them over to a folder on our servers with the ITPC, and WAVs I might have (recorded comments on a photo), and rename them.

I don't delete them from my cards until I know they're on the servers. I'll usually put some basic caption info in the files as to find them easily later with Google Picasa... for example my hockey stuff from the other night, my basic caption was:

Jason Palmer/Times Record News
Wichita Falls Wildcats NAHL hockey game against the Kenai River Brown Bears Saturday, Feb 9, 2008 at Kay Yeager Coliseum.

That way... in a search later if the paper needs a few extra photos from a particular game, I can find them really easily with that keyword search.

edit: Oh... and that's NOT to say that I haven't copied over the ITPC data on photos before. It happens to all of us.
