Thanks for sharing this photographer's work, it's wonderful.

> What techniques is he using to get these results?

Not sure technique is what produces these results - Id' say it more love for his subjects and an ability to see and work with light. And some postprocessing, maybe,

At that point... those cease to be photos as we know it and become graphic artwork.

Nonetheless... they are ridiculously cool

Karl, Thanks for the link. If I could ever do one shot like he did I think I would be happy. The info in that link is very informative.

Techniques? Are you talking about capture techniques of exposure, backgrounds, subject placement, depth, creativity or action. Or are you talking about Post Production Techniques?

The problem with most photographers today is that their first thought of a good image is it must have some remarkable post production technique to make them so great. The truth is 90% of a great photograph starts and ends with what was done IN the camera. If its not on the film or in the original file you are not going to make it better with PP techniques. If todays photographers would spend half their time on good capture skills they would not need as much thought on PP techniques.

These images were made in West Java in Indonesia. It is very mountainous and humid which help produce these remarkable images. Background choice is the most powerful element in his images, the depth is unbelievable. The humidity helps produce the depth by a quick dispersion of light. Shooting at the right time of day will add to the effects of this lighting. Subject placement and compositon on the background is perfect. The action of the subjects fits the overall mood of his images.

Look at the images very carefully. Most of the greatness was done in camera. It would not surprise me if he did very little post production.

AMEN! I have a friend that told me this once, and it is so true:

I can take a great photo and totally screw it up in PhotoShop...but I can't take a totally screwed up photo and make it into something with PhotoShop.

I absolutely agree about too much emphasis on Post Processing in the industry today. My opinion is that Photoshop will be the Death of "Real Photography" before it is all said and done. Too much of the attitude, "I will fix it in Photoshop later..."

I agree with Michael and Coby..... kind of.
But there are some things in this persons gallery that look pretty processed. I would be shocked if it was 90% out of camera.

Oh, don't get me wrong, Photoshop has it's uses! If you look at the link above, you can see that the photograph that is used is fantastic out of the camera and only enhanced some in Photoshop later.
