Do canvas prints need to be sealed or protected? - 02-17-2008, 05:39 PM

Does anyone know if canvas prints should get some sort of sealer to protect them from getting scratched? I have one print that had a scratch on it, so the next one I would like to apply something to it to protect it. Anyone know of anything that will work and is safe for the prints?

Greta,
The coatings don't really help with protecting the print from scratches. You need to treat it just like you would a oil painting. My printer puts a uv sealer on my orders but this does not prevent scratches. If you are thinking something like a polyurathane coating, it kinda defeats having it put on canvas. It will cover the texture of the canvas, can melt the ink, and will crack eaiser.

Greta,
We put a UV coating to help protect against fading, but unfortunately sometimes things happen and canvases do get scratched. We always tell people that they can purchase correction pens, at any craft store like Pat Catans, Michaels or Jo-Ann Fabrics, with a little blending, you won't even be able to tell there ever was a scratch. Let us know if we can answer any questions!
