okay everytime I want to delete a file in LR it asks if I want to keep the file and remove it from my library or completely remove it... Well I always want to remove it, is there someway to change that so I don't have to click the dang button every time.
I know this sounds kind of frivolous but its a major waste of time when I'm going through stuff, in Aperture you can do command+delete and it will get rid of it with no dialogue box and it saved me TONS of time just in that one little thing.
Thanks for any help all of you smarter people will provide!!

I never found a way to do it. However, considering that command+delete is two keystrokes, there's an even easier way to do the culling in LR. Go through and reject all that you don't want. When you're done you can select all the rejects, then delete them at one time.
On the other hand, I download and do the initial cull (most likely the only time I'll delete images) with Photo Mechanic before importing into LR :-)

I find that the prompt is an added security for me. But then again, that's just me.
Or I do what Bill does. Reject the photos I don't want, then at the end, just do command+delete.

if you're going through an ablum, press "b" over every one you want to remove, it adds them to a quick collection. then select the quick collection and select all. then you only have to press it once. that's what I do. kind-of replace "delete" with "b"

According to Steve Kelby's book, The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers, "to delete a photo within a collection, just click on it and press the Delete (PC: Backspace) key on your keyboard. When you do this, you don't get a warning dialog - it's just gone - immediately. If you delete a photo from a collection and change your mind just press Command-Z (PC: Ctrl-Z) to Undo the deletion."
Hmm.. Guess I need to be more careful and not accidently hit the backspace key!!

It's still on disk, and is still in LR, in it's real place in the folder hierarchy, and any other collections it may have been. That's the "remove from collection" key when you have a collection open :-)

okay, I figured it out, thanks guys.
I just hit "X" when I don't like it then command+delete when I'm done going through whatever, at that point it gives me the option to remove, cancel, or permanently delete... only once.... woohoo
Thanks everyone!

I'm not a morning person!! I knew what he was asking, but didn't clue into the text referring specifically to collections. At least I typed it correctly!

Here is the way that I have found to manage my files.
First I mark the ones that I want gone from lightroom with an x.
Then I move all of those files to a folder that I have labeled as "bad"
I select the "bad" folder, and then select all with a <ctrl> + "a"
Hit the delete key. It then asks if I want to remove or delete from disk-- I just merely remove.
Once that is complete, I go into explorer, and find my way to that folder, and move all of the contents into a holding folder that is not brought into lightroom. This way I still have the original files, but they are not cluttering up my lightroom catalogue.

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

I typically import, then do my deleting from the folder the way mentioned (if I want them physically deleted from HD)... Otherwise, I move into a Collection and do my organization there. This way deleted images are just from the collection but not from HD.

I use the "b" method, too....
I B everything I possibly want to keep...then I assign all the Bs a star rating (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)...
I think select "all photographs" and filter for 3 stars and less....hit select all, then delete (or alt-backspace does it, too).
B is quite fast...and gets the job done for me!

using the "x" to flag rejects allows you to filter on them then select all and delete. no need to move to a collection.
