Catch and Release - 02-23-2008, 06:57 PM

Hey all I thought I'd share one of my own retouched photos. I am a web designer/graphic artist/photographer and I've been doing some retouching for the past year now so I thought I'd post one of my before and afters.

I took this photo at the local zoo and I loved how it came out. However, I hated that the only shot I could get was him so close to the fence so blurring out the fence wasn't an option so I took it anyway. I figured I'd test my skills on this shot so here it is. It's not my first, but definitely my best. C&C is always welcome.

Shot with:
Nikon D40x; 70-200mm 2.8
Retouched using:
PS-CS3
Wacom 9x12 Intuos 3 Tablet
My lucky baseball cap on

Catch

and Release

It's not perfect.... but the only way I could tell without really studying it was the pre/post pair of them.

On it's one, the corrected one, it would take a long time to realize what had been done. Kudos.

even knowing that the 2nd one was retouched, I still can't tell the only thing that tells me it is the SAME pic is that little green spring in the upper left hand corner!

Thank you everyone for the comments, I'm glad you liked it. It took me about 6 hours over a few days. It was pretty tedious and it does demand so close attention to detail. However, before Photoshop I used to be an illustrator doing airbrush and pen and ink product illustrations. THAT is some tedious work because most of it had to be stippled and as close to realistic as you could!

I guess I built up my patience doing that even though I'm not a patient person. As tedious as this is it is also very rewarding for me. I just love to look at the outcome so it's worth it. Not to mention the Wacom tablet and how much easier it makes it.

It's also rewarding to hear comments from you guys/gals. I learn a lot from this board so I thought I'd share what I have picked up here with you. Thank you again.

Albert
