Anyone have any experience with video editing and converting file formats?

I know this doesn't quite fit since it is a photo forum...but just thought I'd ask.


I'm trying to edit a video using Adobe Premier, and it doesn't want to take an .avi file that's been compressed with dvix or xivd.

I used to have a program that would allow me to convert the file (or extract portions) to a dv-avi file that I could work with, but I lost the program.


So does anyone know of any program I can use to achieve the same purpose?

xvid/divx file to dv-avi (or any format I can edit in Adobe Premier).
