Renaming files in Bridge question

I have a 30d and a 20d that I used to shoot a recent wedding. Both are set to continuously number the images (not reset with each card change). They are both in different ranges of numbers, so it usually doesn’t create any kind of issue.

This is the first time I have used them back and forth at the same time though. So when sorted by image name, I have two sets of images that go in wacky orders. The first goes all through the wedding from the 20d and then picks up back in the beginning with the shots from the 30d.

My usual process is to rename the file from the standard IMG_1234 to something more relevant like wedding_0001 when I pull them in through Bridge.

My question is - is there a way for me to rename the images in the order of “time taken” instead of actual file number? I just think it would make the editing easier if they were in time sequential order.

After you pull all your photos together, you can sort the images based on the time they were taken (you have to give Bridge time to pull up all the EXIF data though). Once sorted, you can rename them to whatever_####.

OK - so it WILL rename them based on how I have them sorted then? I was worried that it would just go based on the default of current file name.

The only glitch was my own fault.

Guess I need to sychronize camera times next time.. lol Apparently my 30d was on EST and an hour off - but they are still sorted a little closer to what I needed.. lol

Failure to sinc camera times is a pain. Dont forget that if you have another shooter with you that they sinc their camera's time to yours.
