Question Dramatic clouds? - 03-10-2008, 11:15 AM

The past month I have spent on this site has made me more appreciative of the possibilities of clouds, so I took a few pictures when a storm was rolling out on Saturday. I would appreciate any advice for making clouds look more dramatic.

Also, which, if any, version do you like?

pop it into PS and adjust the shadows and highlights. And mess with the color levels for this picture... This will help. Since there really isn't a lot of color in this picture that should do the trick.

Try Duping the layer, setting blend to color doge and bring the op down to 20 to 30%.
Then flatten or alt-ctl-shift-e for a new merged layer.
Then dodge, with a very soft brush with op set to around 10% and mode shadows. Then dodge around the highlights shadows.
Here is what I got for a quick edit here at work (shhh.. I know I should be working).

YOu can get lots of effects from what appear to the eye as normal everyday clouds.
Experiment with them in post processing and change levels, contrasts, etc.

This was a basic cumulonimbus that got some steroids in photoshop.
