Not sure if some of you Photoshop CS3 users knew about this (cause I sure in the heck didn't) but unsaved actions aren't necessarily lost. Accidentally stumbled on this tip while searching for .atn files.
As some of you might of known I've switched over to a new PC. I installed Photoshop CS3 and most of my filters, plug-ins, work spaces, etc...from the old hard drive that was in the dead computer. Everything but my actions. I never saved or exported them to an .atn file. They were always in my action palette.
Back to my problem. Since I never saved them, my actions weren't in the two common action folders in Vista:
- C:\Users\Sonny\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Actions
- C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Actions
I thought all was lost and would have to recreate all my actions from scratch. Not true! As mentioned above this tip was purely discovered by pure luck. Searching for
*action on the old drive, Vista found a file called
Action Palette.psp located:
(It's labeled D cause the old hard drive is connected to the new PC, but it should be C.)
D:\Users\Sonny\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings
So I copied the file into the same location on the new hard drive and BAM! All my actions magically appeared.
Lessoned learned....back up your s_h_i_t!
