My retouched version, but I am not happy with the skin on her face, any help on how to make it better would be so appreciated!

Stack your processed version as a layer over your original, lower the opacity of the processed layer to ~60%. I notice you have a few other touch ups besides her skin that this affects, so you could add a layer mask and paint in just what you want to.

Katie Jo,

How is this. I did not have much to work with because I did not have the original file. But maybe it will give you some idea of how to keep the skin texture while getting rid of the hot spots.

I would have softened the skin more if I had more pixels to blend the tones. I did not work with the color.

here is my rendition, what I did is copy the background layer and apply a surface blur and lower the opacity, after that I took some of the red cast off with a hue and saturation adjustment layer. Then gave it a curves adjustment layer in LAB in the a and b channel, to bring up the colors a bit more. The image was to small to work on but I think it looks OK. My recommendation is to work in layers and play with the opacity. There is many skin techniques but you want to work in a different layer to be able to go back and change how much you want of the effect it self.

I like the colors looking more saturated, however I think the client wants to get rid of more of the highlights, or shiny spots on her face.

The highlights in the face can be fix on a high resolution image, but if you erase them completely the photo looks kind flat or unreal. There is many techniques to tone them down, In my humble opinion you need them for the picture to look real. The goal of retouching a picture is to make the changes look very natural.

I have to agree with you about it looking unreal, and that is what my client said as well ,that it looks tooo retouched. I will try your techniques and then repost!

Thank you so much for your feedback and help!
