5D Picture Styles - 03-13-2008, 08:46 AM

I shoot portraits and weddings with my 5D. I've been using the standard picture style since I purchased my camera and it's been serving me well.

However, I'm wondering what you 5D portrait/wedding shooters have your picture styles set for. Are you using standard, portrait, or faithful?

If you're using a style other than standard, can you tell me why you chose it?

Thanks for the feedback.

When I bought by XTI I liked the idea of the Picture Styles. Shortly thereafter, I started shooting RAW and don't even think about them now.

I set a custom defined picture style for sports photography when I don't need the size of RAW files slowing me down.

Everything else I capture in Raw and since I don't process with DPP, picture styles don't come into play.

I use different custom ones. Keep in mind if you shoot RAW you will need to use DPP to read the picture style info. Adobe and other RAW converters will ignore most in camera settings. BreezeBrowser will let you extract the jpg from your RAW files that will still have the in camera settings also.

If you shoot jpg, then pay no mind to the above comments.

Just mess with around with them until you find something you like. If you find that you always have to add contrast in post, then just add a little in camera. Things like that can speed up your work flow.
When I'm shooting portraits, I like to chimp like mad! I also like to show clients the LCD if I'm trying to get them to understand why I'm doing something crazy. So I want the photo to appear nice a snazzy on the back of the camera. I shoot RAW so I can still change stuff after the fact, but I still like to get pretty close in camera.
