Need Sharpening Help - 03-17-2008, 12:50 AM

Short of reshooting this series, I need help sharpening a couple of photos. The photos are of my son to capture his first birthday. They came out a little dark, which is easily fixed, but I found that when I crop the photos, this particular photo, as well as one of my other faves are a little soft around his face. Please help save this photo for me! I would like to be able to print it as an 11x14. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

p.s. he has cookie on his lip, which I was able to fix in Elements as well :)

Original photo and My Crop and Adjustments -- still not sharp enough to print a large version:

What photo editing software do you use?

PS Elements

If anyone thinks they can do a good, quick fix, I am happy to send the full size, original file.

Thanks again!

Here's one sharpened using the High Pass filter. This was done in Photoshop. I believe you can do this is Paint Shop Pro as well. Duplicate the background layer, change layer type from normal to overlay, and open filter, other, high pass. For this small file I used a
radius of .9. Select OK. For a larger file you'll need to use more. Start with between 2 and 4. You can decrease the opacity of the sharpened layer if you get too much.

Here is my sharpening attempt. This was done using PhotoKit Sharpener in Photoshop.
This sharpening, of course, was applied to your lower res. posted jpeg. A printed version would look better if the sharpening were applied to a higher res. Jpeg or a raw file converted to a psd or tif file.

Thanks, Jen! :)

I am anxious to get this series of photos fixed or reshoot, but it doesn't look like the weather is going to cooperate this week!
