The job market seems to be pretty good for Post Processing. There are a good half dozen website out there that market to photographers.

And just to add to Sonny's post, a couple of the big ones, like shootdotedit.com, have waiting lists to get in.

I wouldn't mind at all having someone else handle the processing/retouching of my portrait work. That is the one thing that I don't like spending my time doing.

I actually like doing it, but am not good enough to market myself. I was just wondering how it would compare in income to photography in general.

A lot of photographers find that they want to go back to the way things were when they shot film: send it all to the lab and let someone else handle the color correction and overall quality. Feel free to contact us through our website and we can talk more about how our services might be able to help you out.

Paid post-production work is mostly about consistency and speed. Most jobs are paid on a per job basis so depending on how fast one works equals the hourly rate of a photoshop professional. That definitely isn't to say, speed is everything when it comes to post-production. Quality and consistency are equally important in our company because we strive to create lasting long-term relationships, basically as an offsite employee.

That's understandable about the consistency speed and particularly quality. I enjoy doing the post-production and was wondering if I were to decide to train more in that direction if there would be a good market. One of those "just wondering" things.

Hi Joanne,

I think if you're talented at post work you would definitely be an asset to one of the many photo editing services available now.

The demand for these services will only increase over time as awareness of outsourcing develops. The funny thing is I think a lot of photographers are hesitant to try it because they think it will be too expensive. But similar to what Laurin mentioned earlier, when people sent film to a lab it cost about the same amount of money ($400 and up). I suppose photographers have gotten used to keeping that money for themselves now and don't want to part with it as easily.

Anyway, this is my first post here so I wanted to say hi as well. I'll check in from time to time.

Matt
