color with black & white background - 03-17-2008, 08:43 PM

I've taken a picture of my brother's m3 and am trying to salvage the fact that I messed up and took the photo with the sun on the side of the image rather than behind me. Ugh, that glare on the side is bad..

I'm using Photoshop CS3 and adjusted the white balance a little, but since I'm not the best at Photoshop, I'm stuck on trying to bring the colors of the car out and at the same time keeping it looking real versus plastic. Is there a way to lighten the front a little bit more?

Any suggestions? Thanks for your time..

My technique is based on layers, each layer takes care of different things, also using the adjustment layers like Curves, and selective color, for this image. Also use the advantage of smart objects filters in this case shadow/highlight filter. The other important part of my workflow is masks to select specific parts of the image to correct and balance the image, also in the end adding a vignette for the dramatic look and the logo to make it look like an add.
If you are starting I recommend you www.kelbytraining.com they have very good video classes.

Scott Kelby's 7 point system book has an entire chapter on how to fix a car sitting by the beach with the same sort of "issues"...would be worth it to look at the book...it is a step by step kind of thing...(even I can follow it!!!!)

thanks for the recommendation. It's been such a long time since I've used photoshop (in college 5 years ago) that I'm way behind the curve. I'll look into the book.

i love the color change sonny did. i simplified the image a bit. i think the lamp post and the high wall on right is a distraction.
