I have it and hasn't used it extensively yet, however, I have used the control point elements of Color Efex Pro 3.0 and find it really useful.

I mainly have used these software plug ins after I have used photoshop to get the image technically correct (i.e. color correction, cropping, contrast, removal of nonessential elements, retouching, etc...).

I used color efex pro on some variations of technically corrected photos for a senior high school portrait client and she chose several of the variations.

Let me know what you think.

So far Leslie it doesn't seem there's a big interest in the software yet.

Actually, Lightroom's 2.0 beta shows that localized adjustments are coming in version 2.0 and that is what Viveza already allows.

What is better with Viveza is that you can put all the adjustments on layers and work those layers as you would with any layer in PS; Lightroom still is always meant to be a hardcore RAW processor.

Hahahaha lmao!

Where have you been? I miss your sense of humor!

Thanks, everyone! Still haven't had a chance to play with it, well, I don't even know how to play with it. I did get the new Nik Color Efex 3.0 filters, complete set, and they seem ok.

I've played around with a demo a little bit. The control-points are pretty innovative (if not brand-new; Nik licensed the tech to Nikon a year or so ago for CaptureNX). They make certain types of selections a breeze that might otherwise be pretty difficult.

Having said that, the actual tonal and color controls in Viveza are somewhat crude, particularly teh color-balance controls (Red, Green, Blue sliders) which I found way too coarse to be of much use for subtle editing.

The other sticking point is the price. Control points are a novel feature but IMHO they don't come close to justifying the $249 price tag. Consider that CaptureNX sells for half as much, contains all the functionality of Viveza, and is also a full-blown RAW convertor. Granted, CaptureNX is only of use for NEF shooters, but to me it still seems like Viveza is vastly overpriced.

I guess if you're in business and need to regularly make the kind of selections that control-points are tailored for, it could pay for itself in time saved. But I would strongly recommend trying out the demo to see if it the functionality would really justify the price tag for you.

I have it and have played with it a little bit...still on the steep part of the learning curve. I've also been using Nik Color Efex 3.0 filters which I'm finally starting to get used it.....I'm finding it very useful and quick to use. Also too many choices...I'm really only using a few of the filters.

Thanks, Jeff!

David, I have the Nik filters, too, and have been playing with them. The more I use them, the more I like them. Here is an image I did with them:
