I just tried LR last month and kick myself for getting it sooner. It allows me to view all my images from a shoot and apply global changes to them instantly. i can get a large handful of images out faster for a proof web show or quick and dirty slideshow. I was using CS2 and batch actions to do this. It saves me from opening 40 images in CS2 then applying a simple change.
If you take more then 30 pictures and have lots of keepers LR is timesaver.
It has many more benefits that make it key in the workflow. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

Ok, it says us LR newbies need someone to "invite" us to the beta program for a serial number. PM me if willing to send said "invite". Thanks!

If you are not a Lightroom user and would like to try Lightroom 2.0 for the duration of the Public Beta Test, PM me your email address and I'll submit the invite request to Adobe.
You can still try it out on your own without the invite, but you will be limited to 30 days.

Just downloaded the beta... the 64-bit version... and it TOTALLY rocks on my new laptop... QUAD Core... 4GB RAM... (3) 200GB drives in RAID0 config...
Lightroom is a LOT faster now than it was in the pre-2.0 version.

Does LR (or any other RAW converter) let you do a white balance on JPG's?
What are the main reasons to get LR as opposed to using CS3? | Lightroom use the same RAW converter as CS3, ACR.

I have CS3 at work and have used that only for a few problem images that didn't seem to work with anything else.

I don't usually print out of Lightroom, but when I just checked the print module (1.3.1), it shows my icc profiles that are loaded for my printer like this
Is there a reason that properly installed custom profiles wouldn't work?

for those that asked "why lightroom vs. cs3", i use both on a daily basis, and i boil down to this:
photoshop is for many layers, lightroom is for many images.
want to convert 100 images to decent black and white all at once? lightroom.
want to convert a single image to outstanding black and white? photoshop.
need to lighten the entire image, or series of images? lightroom.
just want to lighten her eyes? photoshop.
global edits vs. local edits. for serious photoshop users, the ability to use local dodge and burn in lightroom is unlikely to be a big deal. i almost never use ps d&b anyway because i find it to be a very blunt tool.

It appears that someone else answered the question. HELP!
What am I missing? Where are the dodge/burn tools in the 2.0 Beta release? Why tell us about the new tools if we can't beta test them? As I recall the heal/clone tool wasn't in the original Lightroom 1.0 Beta copy either. They appeared when I purchased Lightroom 1.0.

The dodge and burn tool is under the develop panel. Check this video. http://www.photoshopuser.com/lightroom2/

You can still try it out on your own without the invite, but you will be limited to 30 days. | I'm going to bump this thread and let others know that Adobe has not limited the number of "invitations" that can be sent out.
If you have downloaded and installed the LR 2.0 Beta and would like to go beyond the 30-day trial send me the invite info (a valid email address) and I'll send an invite request to Adobe on your behalf. When Adobe sends you your serial number just enter it in the registration block to beta test until August.

the statement that lr2 offers local "dodge and burn" threw me a bit, because i interpreted it literally. as a non-fan of the d and b tools in ps, i was underwhelmed. however, i watched a video yesterday about the new version, and it actually allows local application of several things, including saturation and exposure. much more useful!

I have been using lightroom since it first came out in Beta a little over a year ago. I found once I learned how to use It I could not be without it. It is great for editing and workflow. I downloaded the new beta and after watching some of the tutorials I realized it is an improvement.
I especially like the way it uses more of the computer screen since I often edit on my laptop which has a smaller screen than my desktop. I was always disappointed with the way previous releases of Lightroom handled vignetting after a crop but the new Lightroom 2 has corrected that.
I often use the slide show feature to show my photos and after spending some time editing and creating a slide show of some of my images in lightroom 2 beta, I was disappointed to find I could not export the file. I wonder if others are having a similar problem? It is probably an issue that they will resolve. Other than that I look forward to the new release. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
