Upgrading Photoshop - 04-05-2008, 12:06 AM

I'm sure this has been answered/explained elsewhere, I just can't find it. I also, for what it's worth, tried searching the adobe forums... I'm not having any luck.

In short, I have Adobe Photoshop 7 on my old desktop. I bought a new system and can't find the old discs to install it on my new computer. So I thought, "O-kay, I'll upgrade to CS3." Except, do I need those discs for the upgrade? How does that work? Am I stuck paying full price?

And anybody know when CS4 launches? Because with my luck it will be a week after I finally purchase CS3.

From version 7 to CS3 is not considered an upgrade by Adobe. You skipped too many in between. You can always call them and plead your case, but I think this time it will have to be a new purchase.

I just was at the site and they have "Adobe Photoshop CS2, CS, or 7.0" listed as the upgradeable programs. Am I missing something?

nope, you are correct. 7 is eligible for the upgrade price. Even if you don't have the CDs, If you have the vs. 7 serial number, you should be ok when doing the install. However, if you don't have the serial number, then hopefully you registered the software with Adobe, in which case you can call into their service center. If you didn't register, then you will probably be stuck purchasing the full version.

As for CS4, it probably won't be released until the fall at the earliest, but don't quote me on that... :) It's usually 18-24 months between releases and CS3 was released in Apr 2007.

Holly,
Are you talking about upgrading Paint Shop Pro 9 to Photoshop CS3? or to a newer version of Paint Shop Pro? I don't know of an upgrade path from PSP to Photoshop.

I just looked on Corel's website Corel's website and the upgrade from PSP7 and above to X2 is $49. cheap. :)

I'm sorry, I didn't check my facts. That's the second time this year I have been wrong.

If you look at my posts, I'm wrong so many times (that's what my wife tells me ), that I'm constantly having to correct what I say.

There was a sneak peak of Photoshop CS4 at PhotoshopWorld last week in Orlando, FL.

Indications are that it's supposed to be released this October. Adobe usually runs on an 18-24 month product cycle.
