At F22, you are probably seeing blurring due to diffraction effects. The sweet spot for most lenses is F/8 - F/11.

not sure what to say about the sharpness.

and, by the way, dennis - i've looked over your website a bit and you're a good photographer! you don't need to wish for what pell is doing. you have the one tool that no amount of photoshop or gear will ever make up for: a good eye. pell does, too, he just sees things differently than you do.

Thanks, will!

It's just something that has bugged me for a while. Like Jeff was saying, this style has been around and used and abused for quite some time. I could just never quite figure it out. I want to know the secret. lol
Jill Greenberg's processing is similar in respect to that ultimate sharpness, clarity and detail.

Greetings all, I noticed hotlinking from this site off mine (pellphoto.com) so I thought i'd join to see what's up. I have retermed HDR to Tone Mapping these days.

Most HDR's aren't HDR at all but simply tone mapping using PHOTOMATIX plugin. Admittedly my shots are often a bit sloppy as I try to update every 2 days so try to spend 30 minutes or less per shot. (they're for personal use so I don't mind the imperfections) .

As far as sharpness is concerned, it has NOTHING to do with the camera or lens and everything to do with the interpolation on resize.

My secret is in Photoshop. Go to PREFERENCES, COMMAND K (or control K) , then look for Image Interpolation under GENERAL tab. Select BI-CUBIC SHARPER . This will keep sharpness as priority on resize. Hope that helps.

Also, my shots are kind of plain and simple simply because of the frequency I update so I dont have a lot of time to set up and plan great shoots (sometimes I do) but for the most part these are just hobby shots. The over processing is simply to compensate for often times a boring photo :).

Happy shooting all.
