lightroom files - 04-24-2008, 08:01 PM

I am new to lightroom and still working my way thru it. I'm a little baffled tho. I look in my files and see that I have a raw file, a dng file, and a jpeg file. But when I go into lightroom and look for the photos, it is "this file could not be opened". I have been trying to figure this out and may have changed where I kept the files..could that be the problem? Should I just re-import them? Any suggestions?

I'm not exactly an LightRoom expert, but I think if you moved the files, you will have to re-import them into a catalog. I suspect the error you are getting is because LightRoom can't find the files in the location where the catalog says they should be.

Good Luck,
Don

I use LR and pretty familiar with it. In this case, if you see LR thumbnails, but a question mark in the upper right hand part of the thumbnail, then you have to click that quetsion mark and reestablish the link to the photos.

I think that if you already have these in on your harddrive, the quickest way to fix all this is to do what dhoward recommended and import them from their current position on the harddrive using the existing filename. It will take very little time to update and you can import the overall folder holding all your file types at once.

There is a feature (assuming you are using version 1.3 or later) to resync up your files when missing, but I would rather reimport vs hunting and figuring all that out. That feature is really good if you are only talking about one or two files amongst a hundred that are linked fine within a single folder.

Let us know how it goes.
