How many peole would spend 10 hours, or longer, to make one print?

An inquiring mind wants to know.

I assume it will still be done by those who want/need it. Where the decrease will come from is all the folks that don’t need it but had to use it because of the lack of a suitable (for them) alternative.

A parallel would be not having to melt, draw and hand blow glass when a 49 cent plastic cup from Walmart would suffice to have something to take the meds with......

I have space saved in my darkroom for when the price comes down on the digital enlarger. right now it's just alittle to pricey for me.

Digital and tech have done this for many cause its easy geeky electronic absessed turn ons.
Sure there are those that will spend 10 hours on a single picture ...
but most don't have such attention span like Paul Simon said.
I could have used my Arca Swiss and shot 8 x 10 just like Adams did.
But hinking in Yosemite w a view camera is kinda hard for this guy.
F.W.I.W. - When there I was glad to see 1 woman w a 4 x 5 view camera,
2 with film 35's, 10 with throw a way film cameras,
10 with FF Canon DSLR,
about 3,000 with APS-C DSLR's,
and about 5,000 with P&S digital.

I choose to do this with my 20D new 17 - 40 L and my existing 2200 Epson cause its an easy geeky absessed turn on.

But for a hand drawn and blown glass work will have a much greater value in the market than a plastic cup.

Priced any of Dale Chihuly's early work lately?

"instant computer generated stuff"? Experimenting with inks, papers and profiles until one gets the results in a print desired, is hardly "instant"!

As for 10 hours to make a print - it doesn't take that long if one knows what they are doing. But, occasionally, there is a difficult negative that does require a lot of work, and hours may be spent. However, compared to the days and weeks my illustrator wife spends on paintings and drawings, or the time a sculptor spends on a chunk of stone, 10 hours ain't so much to produce a finished product.

Besides, this thread started by wanting to achieve "Ansel Adams" equivelents. Ansel said that "Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop." Twelve!!! Sort of 180 degrees from taking out the DSLR and shooting 1000's ...

I always got my B&W film, paper and chemistry from www.freestylephoto.biz.

Go online to see a catalog or order a hard copy. I've always received good service from them.
