Just set your PS working color space to ProPhoto. :-)

Just convert to whatever profile you want to use (don't use Assign Profile).

If the images look bad in Photoshop when you open them, something's wrong with your color management setup. Make sure you never Assign to your working space. You should have Photoshop configured to either preserve the embedded profile, or convert to your working space.

I'll tell you what I do for web images. I work in 8-bit ProPhoto (16-bit slows my system too much) and save the PSD file once it's the way I want it. Then I run an action that flattens the file, converts to sRBG, resizes the image, sharpens, then saves at a quality setting of 10. Print files are handled differently, but this is my web work flow.

If you aren't using Actions, I highly recommend them because they can save you tons of time on those repetitive tasks.

A. Why go back to CS3? Lightroom is doing everything I need to do. And it'll probably do a lot more once I figure out how to use all of it's features.

B. Have you found the Export Page in Lightroom? Are you using Export to save your developing? You can select file format & colorspace there. You can also build a preset that does what you want everytime.

Disclaimer: I don't have CS3. Maybe Lightroom & CS3 work together without the need for the Export function.

Renae,

Just set up both systems to the same color space , and that will make them run good with each other.

Thanks Luis, that is what I eventually did. I looked and did several searches and couldn't figure out how to make it work. I think I finally got it corrected, because when I export into CS3, there isn't a color change...now if I could figure out how to export photos from the same catalogue into different files in CS3?? Why is there always something????

Cool Edit > Preferences > External Editing - 05-13-2008, 07:22 AM

It's right here........color space for two external editors.

Now, for my undigital brain and future reference, if the photo is "developeed" in Lightroom, when & why would you want to use Photoshop on the same photograph? Personally, I absolutely despise the user interface of Photoshop. The toolbars hide half the screen. I can't make anything do what I want it to do. Yes, I know. Rookie problems. I still don't like it and I still don't see the need IF a person has Lightroom. End of rant.

Renae, I'm glad you figured out the answer.

Wayne,

It's all about making a workflow that fits your needs and if lightroom does that, good for you. I have lightroom but I hardly use it, some batch processing and things of that nature but for retouching and serious fix-ups I always find my self going back to my old buddy photoshop. It's more of a personal preference I am a old photoshop user, well not that old only from version 3.0 back in 1995 so it's easier and more natural for me to use PS instead of LR and it doesn't mean lightroom is less worthy or vise versa it's just a personal choice.

That is so funny!! I don't like LR because of the way it uses the space!!! I think it is more habit and what you get used to. (not that either one of us are old ) I just started with LR and am not used to it yet..so maybe when I get used to it, I'll join ya Wayne!! Give me some time, I have to get used to it!!

LR's editing capabilities are extremely limited compared to Photoshop. 90% of what I do on an image either can't be done at all in LR, or can't be done as well. LR is essentially a glorified raw convertor.

There you go. Give it a chance.

What I've learned from Lightroom so far: If I can see the effect on the monitor, I went too far. Back off. Less is often better. Download Lightroom 2.0 Beta. The Print module alone is way better. I really prefer printing in Lightroom 1.4.1 or 2.0 Beta. I built some preset print layouts (for 35mm and 6x7) and they make everything easier.
