MAC and CS3 - 05-26-2008, 10:37 AM

I purchased cs3 for the mac (urgh) and I am trying to mimic my vista machine. Whenever I start the cs3 on the mac, the program will start normally, but the desktop is shown through on canvas.
Whenever I start the cs3 on the vista machine it has a grey canvas. How do I change the mac to the grey canvas and prevent it from dropping in the doc every time I click on bridge?

Hope that this makes since, I am use to working with the grey canvas background...
Thanks

I am sure there is a way to have it default to this, but if you hit F, it will take you to a gray background. There are three modes it can show, all are reached by hitting F. One is gray, the second is gray minus the toolbars and the third is a black background. Hitting F again takes you back to no colored background.

If i misunderstood, then i'm sorry.

I tried the F key mode before the post and still will not give me the option.
Thanks anyway!

You could always change the desktop background to a solid gray. I don't know about newer versions, but older PS allowed the desktop to show through without any way to change it.

I know exactly what you are talking about, and the quick answer is that there is nothing you can do about it. For some reason, Adobe does not put that grey "background surface", "art board", "canvas", or whatever you want to call it, in Photoshop on the Mac...I don't know why, but the Windows versions have it and the Mac versions do not. When coming over to Mac from Windows, it took some getting use to. On Windows, if you accidentally click outside of your project, you were still operating within Photoshop. With no "art board" if you accidentally click on the background, then you jump to the "activated" Mac desktop, and Photoshop goes to the background.
As someone stated above, about the only thing you can do to make it "look" like the Windows version, is to change you Mac desktop to a neutral Grey. Other than that, it is just something you are going to have to get use to.

I hope what I wrote makes sense...sometimes I know what to say, but am lousy at getting it typed out.

Try hitting F after you open an image. It brings the gray up. I usually hit F twice and then use space bar to click and drag the image around.
