Converting Raw to Jpeg for 16x20

When converting a raw image to jpeg for a 16x20, what dpi do I need? Canon software default is 350 and I have been using for all sizes. Is it OK for 16x20?

Also, cropping to add studio name in paint shop pro. There is no 16x20. Any suggestions to get proper size studio name in corner.

You could probably go down to 300 dpi or maybe even 150 and save yourself a little memory.

I'm not sure what you mean in the Paint Shop Pro question. Can you elaborate please?

I am not worried about saving memory, I am worried about print quality.

I use PSP to crop images and add my studio logo before uploading to lab for printing. The crop size ends in 8x10. Kinda hard to explain if you haven't done it.

So you're cropping down to 16x20 from a larger size?

I'm assuming from what you're saying that the crop box is a fixed size.. maybe there's a box you can uncheck or some measurement boxes you can clear for the crop tool? PSP is a pretty good graphics app and I can't see them restricting the crop tool like that. Maybe you're using a preset?

In PSP, use the crop tool to select 16x20 inches. Then, before you actually crop the photo, check the "Maintain aspect ratio" box.

Then crop your pic, ignoring the "inches" that it shows.

The size in inches really doesn't matter as it will change based on the dpi. But the aspect ratio will be the same as the 16x20 that you need.

Well, that would be great, but there is not 16x20 in paint shop pro. It goes from 8x10 to
10x15cm, 13x18cm, so on.
Confusing to me.

1st pic: setting the aspect ratio you wish to use. Notice that the highlighted portion is way too small. That's ok, all we are setting is the aspect ratio for now.

Next AFTER YOU CHECK THE "Maintain Aspect Ratio" box, drag the corner to enlarge the box to include the area you wish. IGNORE the changing numbers in the Inches part that you just set.

After this crop you are finished. You do not need to change the DPI, the printer will do that.

I was just using the crop tool and not paying attention to the tool bar. Still have a lot to learn with digital.

I'll sometimes crop in ACR. especially if there are a lot of images to deal with. The ACR crop tool is pretty slick. For a 16 x 20 use the 4x5 crop setting (16/4 = 4 ; 20/4 = 5)

What is ACR? CR2 is Canon's raw. I did finally notice to use the trimming tool in Canon's DPP software with the aspect ration of 4:5 on raw image.?

Adobe Camera Raw. If you open a RAW file in Photoshop it opens first in ACR.
