Help with facial retouching - 06-01-2008, 05:26 PM

Can anyone help me?
I am trying to fix this photo and make it presentable and I am having the hardest time. I am trying to fix the man's overexposed forehead and the girl's (standing) face.

Any feedback would be most welcome and appreciated!! I have tried the clone stamp with a little success. This is the untouched photo.
(I am a novice at PS3 and a little better at Elements 6)

Thanks!
rhonda

I tried but it was hard to see what I was doing on such a small file.

Yes, I did, but it made it look worse.

That looks much better on him-- did you use the clone stamp? It look much better than my attempt.

Any suggestions for the little girls face?

Those look pretty good. You might try this and see if you like it.
Go to your lasso tool and circle the bright spots and use some feather. Then go to the brightness in enhance and make your adjustments.

One more thing you might try......
get your eyedropper tool (set it 3x3) and click on a spot close to the space your going to work on (so it will be as similar as to what you want) then....get the paint brush and set your brush size (enlarge your area if you like) soft edge and just paint over the light areas. You may have to give it several try(s) to find the right blend, but, you can play with the opacity in the layers pallet and and blend it right in. Just another technique to put in your book of tricks. Pretty soon you'll be a pro.

Because the areas are completely blown out I used the dropper to pick the color and used the airbursh too. You can do the same and the other people.

Rhonda,
Once you retouch his forehead you notice her forehead, when you finish that you notice her v-neck, when you fix that, then you notice her arm and hands, when you fix that you notice the child standing, and so on and so on. Where to stop is the question. I also did his hand and the held childs face.
Most was done with brush tool, sampling the particular skintone of the individual at 30-50% opacity, then adding noise, then blending with the clone tool.

Thought I'd give a shot with the technique in Creative Photoshop Portrait Techniques. It uses a color range selection and replacement method.
