Nikon Capture NX 2.0 announced (trial available) - 06-03-2008, 12:23 PM

Nikon announced Capture NX 2.0 and there's a 60 day trial version available for download:

http://www.capturenx.com/

Some of the fixes are so very welcome (dual monitor support!!) and in big ways it's a disappointment (performance).

Rob Galbraith has a review of it here:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/con...id=7-9311-9462

I don't know if anyone uses it but if you do, go check it out.

Hmmmm..... looking through the site. Wonder if they're going to allow for a cheap upgrade for those of us running 1.3.

I opened 1.3 and checked for updates, and was told there were none. The same thing when 1.3 arrived. Hopefully they will offer a free upgrade soon.

Galbraith's article says there'll be a $110 upgrade price.

I'll tell you this, I'm using it right now and even though I "think" I'm going to like it better than 1.3 the batch processing engine is so much slower in v2 than v1.3. What would have taken 10 minutes in 1.3 is over an hour in 2.0...

Is this beta software or something? If so, that explains the speed issue since performance tuning is usually one of the last things that happens before release. If this is the final version, I'll agree with the "Nikon's insane" comment.

I got a response to my email, and thay told me $110. Of course, you can get cheaper prices from internet suppliers than from Nikon.

Capture continues to be a tragic comedy.

Pro: It's by far the best editing tool when processing Nikon NEF RAW files. You can argue the fact but I've tried them all and nothing does a better job. And I would LOVE to find something that simply its equal.

Con: Everything.

They gave us Capture NX free with the D3 - whoo-hoo, that lasted a whole 7 months. Now we have to pay more for the upgrade than we did the original version (it was $99, right? or was that Nikon Capture?).

And this was not labeled as a Beta but a Trial version.

All anyone's ever asked for was better performance and that's the one thing they never seem to deliver....

Ugh.
