Mounting is critical when framing larger prints. Any print over an 8x10" that comes out of my sudio is mounted. Thickness of the mounting board depends on the size of the print. A non-mounted print will eventually sag in a frame. Allowing it to touch the glass and possibly stick (moisture.)
A properly mounted and framed print will never touch the glass, preventing this and keeping the print flat.
Also, even though we spray our prints, we still place them under glass and seal the back of the frame! At minimum we use Larson Jule Conservation Glass; optimally I recommend Museum Glass. Conservation will cut most of the UV rays out and help prevent fading etc. Museum glass will cut 99% of the Harmful UV out and definitely helps to preserve the image.
Larson Jule glass doesn't glare nor does it detract from the image. It is definitelty more expensive, but well worth the cost if you plan on keeping the print on the wall for many years.
I see you live in Clear Lake. If you want to see the difference in Conservation and Museum glass, drop by Tates Frames just off of I45 South and FM 518. It is on the west side of I45 just past the Wendy's. Mr. Tate is very knowledgable and has been in business MANY years. He sells anything needed in framing, including the glass.
