I am not anywhere near being a prof. photographer or even a pro-am. I have rarely shot in RAW (don't shoot me!) but decided to this past weekend at a special event. Now I'm home and trying to view the photos on my computer and it won't let me. First it said I needed some exe. from Canon. So I downloaded that. Then it said I needed something from Windows Imaging - so I downloaded that. I am on dial-up, so just imagine how long this has taken me! And aggravatingly enough, I still can't open the files. Oh and I do not have Photoshop so the corrections I can make to the photos are fairly limited anyhow. But ... it's making me crazy because I can't even see the photos at all right now. What do I do??? At first I thought maybe the card was damaged, but the photos at the very end I'd switched back to .jpg and I can see those just fine.

Your canon camera should have come with a Cd that contains a RAW editor. Without photoshop or any other raw editor, it will be really hard to work on raw files! Google "RAW converter" and I am sure you can come up with some free one to use to convert them to jpg. It won't do you much good to shoot in raw without the tools used to edit them! HTH!
