Let's say you take a shot and should have had a UV filter in place but didn't. Which software packages allow you to select the image and with a click or two put a UV filter on via computer rather than physically on the end of the lens, or do they all do that or is it an option you have to buy/add? I've been jpg p/s or film so most of this is new to me and I'm an old dog.

a UV filter will "warm" the image a very slight bit, so often a non-filtered image can be 'shopped by changing the color temperature just a smidge towards "warm" (aka orange, aka lower K-temp value).

A UV filter can also increase contrast a wee bit, and that is simple to do in post as well.

A UV filter is often referred to as a "haze" filter, and by that meaning that it can clarify subjects somewhat on hazy summer days. For the most part, haze is addressed by color temp and contrast as above.

IMHO, the impact of a glass UV filter is very, very minimal.

For the most part, the most realistic advantage of a UV filter (and hotly debated at that) is as a lens protector.

I've got photos I took to compare the reach of a couple of lenses. They are of a fake lighthouse across a lake. There's a fair amount of "haze" in the air because we have ugly air around Houston. That's the correcting effect I'm looking for. I've got FastStone that I downloaded and also a trial copy of CaptureNX I haven't loaded yet because I don't want to start the clock on it yet. I'm also not sure I'll go with it. I may get Lightroom instead and work on learning it. There's sure a lot to learn on this digital stuff.

hazy around here is more likely moisture; water vapor does a real number on sharpness and clarity and generally mucks up a shot.
