What do you use to preview your NEF files?

I noticed that when viewing NEF files thru MAC OSX preview or PS3, the images are a bit soft and dull which makes me think the the images need some work. But if I preview them using Nikon's ViewNX or Nikon Capture, the come out the way I expect them to.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I only rely on Preview just for a quick glance.
Then I'll right-click and open the file either in CaptureNX or Photoshop.

I prefer ViewNX as well....I'm no expert, but I believe that since the software was created was Nikon RAW, it's gonna do a better job of showing/editing the images
I notice a big difference in images that I edit in Bridge/PSCS4 vs the same image edited in Capture NX

I use View NX to review my files and rank photos. I also like the slide show features to sit back and laugh at my attempt to be a photographer. Then I use Capture NX to edit my pictures. I also have CS3 but I am finding that I am using this less since I purchased "The Photographers Guide to Capture NX".

ACDSee lets you view all image file formats except the new raw from 5DmkII. It even has fairly complex adjustment editing capability.

If your useing Nikon gear, like you say.. get comfortable with ViewNX (Free with camera I think)... and think about buying Capture NX 2.

I will also put in a plug for Vincent Versace's DVD on NX2.. pretty bacic. But an easy start to using NX.
