Lightroom, flow of things..... - 07-20-2008, 07:04 PM

OK I am new to lightroom, what I have used of it I LOVE IT! It has helped save a few photos I don't think I could have really helped with photoshop. I by far am not an expert with photoshop. Far far from that, but I do use it almost every day. Now.... what do you guys do, who knows what they are really doing, with the flow of lightroom and photoshop? Right now for instance I am working on a collage for a client, I opened my photos in photoshop, adjusted the ones I needed to really tweak in lightroom and then reopened and used them in photoshop.

I guess my question is, to what extent do you use lightroom? Mostly for tweaking? I have a book on lightroom, but haven't read it the whole way yet

Just wondering....

I'm using LR almost exclusively. I do ALL adjustments in LR and have found that once that's done, there is rarely anything to do in PS unless I'm going to do a specialty effect. Some of that can be done in LR but if I'm going to do a special effect on an image, I'd rather use all the tools I have available in PS.

What kinds of things are you currently doing in PS?

BTW, I've been using PS for about 15 years and LR for about 3 weeks and if I HAD to give up one (at least for my photography) it would be PS. Fortunately, I'm allowed both. :) Feel free to pm me if I can be of any help.

Sounds like you are doing the right thing. Photoshop has been to main tool for me exclusively but I have been using the Lightroom beta (only for a week) that just came out and I can definately see that it has great potential for improving post-work and flow.

And you are correct LR has definately breathed new life into photos that under photoshop would have needed extensive work. But photoshop still remains as important and usually is the last program to see the photo. With the number of actions that aren't quite covered in LR, it is still used after exporting an image from LR. Whether to do some soft skin or put an image in a frame. It still does a huge number of things.

I edit in LR as much as possible, then go into PS for those special tweaks and effects as needed. I know that sounds over-simplified, but that's really about it.
