I'm noticing my PP is morphing again. Every few month is seems to do a 160. Im noticing Im looking at a lot more shots now and favoring B&W. Maybe they are more suited to it or maybe Ive been watching too many old movies. Im starting to ditch glowers I loved too.
Anyway, what affects your PP choices? Do you notice your work going through cycles or phases? | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

definitely. I discover an effect or treament, run it into the ground until my real friends say "Enough!", then go off on another tangent...
...and the cycle starts over again.
OC is like that.

I'm in a B&W phase right now too. And what I am editing in color is minimaly processed, no heavy effects, just contrast, curves, sharpen and done.

I have a gazillion actions saved. My favorites are the Kubota's Artistic Pack series. I love experimenting. What makes me tick is being able to envision how a specific action will render an image. Sometimes I even find myself thinking through how I will use an action as I'm shooting - or picking a location with a specific action in mind if I know the person in front of my camera likes certain looks in my portfolio.
Right now, I'm collecting black & white actions, and I'm hoping to develop my own platinum look action set. It's tough to get a beautiful black and white when you send in a digital file to print on custom papers.

I used to like light and airy black and white but I mainly do contrast-y, harsher black and white conversions. It's more me I think. My color is different because I don't pop the crap out of it like I did when I was just starting out. Now it looks a bit more natural with a little something extra. I want to stick with that.

It just depends how I feel when I take the shot. Usually I have a pretty good idea what I want the final result to look like, and PP accordingly. PP is my least favorite thing to do in the entire world, so I tend to not do much of it at all.

Lately, all I have been doing is color correction using curves. Occasionally I have to color correct the background and subject separately if the background got a weird color shift or something.
Basically, I am going for perfect color.

I'm usually morphing along the lines of Schwarzschild Spacetime...
ds2 = r / (r - 2M) dr2 + r2 dq2 + r2 sin2 (q) df2 + (2M / r - 1) dt2.

I do find myself learning a new technique and going with it for a while. . . then I'll switch in a month or two to something else and throw in only one or two from the technique I was using before. . .and the majority is new stuff. . . but I'm always up for black and whites. . . all the photographys I've taken of my children I've converted to B/W to hang in the house.

I go in cycles with respect to B&W versus colour, but there is a unifying theme through it all. I like punchy, contrasty images with defined shadows, whether in colour or not.

I was waiting for someone to say something about the 160 remark. lol. I suppose I coulda said zig zagging too. Does anyone look at their PP from when they 1st started and think, OMG, I should so burn that. lol. I was told most people want to do that with their 1st sermon when I entered seminary. I never really felt that there. Photography is a whole other matter. I'd burn them all...if there was something to burn. ha ha. But then I couldnt show anyone exactly how much I sucked when I started. hee hee. See, I can be taught. ;o)

I've been putting in some post processing time lately. I'm finding there's many ways you can screw up an otherwise decent photo.......LOL. I always have the original to go back to though. It's fun to experiment but you can spend hours before you know it.

holly, i have a stack of stuff from when i first started using photoshop that i plan to use to light the fireplace with this winter. as to what's going on now....i know where i want to be, and i'm heading in that general direction...but there's definitely some zigging and zagging along the way. i've found in general that the best photoshop work out there is rarely done with actions...no matter what's on the cover of the box or the website, so i refuse to use them. i also keep learning that most of what i've learned isn't what it takes to get where i want to be, but is really just the beginning.
confused? i know i am.....
